Piracy can be an economic bonanza—-for lawyers, bureaucrats and others hired to fight it.
Here in the States we have the ever trusty-RIAA, reliably doing its best to serve as a negative example for the e-book biz.
Meanwhile in the U.K. some experts worry that a a three-strikes law, to deprive evildoers of Net access, could “cost Internet user in the country £24 a year—and cost the ISP industry £1 million a day.” So reports Ars Technica, drawing on information in the Mirror.
Scene is from old promo for The Pirates of Penzance. And now here’s a shocking idea. Maybe countries everywhere should spend more on the arts and literature—on actors, musicians and writers—and less on officious lawyers and ‘crats who could play themselves in an updated and expanded Pirates.
