Received the below email and thought it was pretty interesting. Normally I wouldn’t have published something that could be taken as just a promo, but after attending the Writers Conference I realize how hard it is to get a book marketed. Al Katkowsky has seemingly done well at this, and I thought that our reader/authors would find it of interest. I’ve asked Al if he would contribute an article on his experiences to TeleRead. The email follows:
I thought you may be interested in knowing and spreading the word about this event. I’m sure lots of authors who are taking the DIY path will want to know all about it.
My book, Question Of The Day, has been turned into an iPhone app. I’m speaking at The Apple Store at West 14th St in Manhattan this Friday, May 8 at 7PM. They’ve listed me right on the front page of their site:

In the first year, I sold most of 1,000 copies of my book.
In the first Month, QotD was downloaded 10,000 times. It is currently in the Top 25 in the Books category in the App Store of iTunes, and has been for three weeks. The App is temporarily free, in advance of the video update becoming available.
I will be speaking about the origins of the book, what I did to promote it the first year, how I got someone to make it into an App, the ups and downs of dealing with Apple, and how I got the event at the Apple Store. I have a second Apple Store event coming up in Santa Monica CA on Tuesday, June 30.
