Amazon shopping app for Android could hurt p-bookstores: E-reading app next?

While a San Francisco p-bookstore pokes fun at the Kindle via YouTube, Amazon has fired a new shot in its battle with the brick-and-mortar world.
Via the new Amazon App for Android, you can use bar codes or photos you snap—to find Amazon pages for the products you see in old-fashioned stores.
Yes, that almost surely would include bookstores. They won’t feel much pain at first. But if apps like these catch on, you can bet the damage will be serious.
The new Amazon app also lets you “access your existing Amazon account, cart, wish lists, payment and shipping services, order history, 1-Click and Prime membership benefits.”
So is a Kindle e-book app for the Android OS on the way, too? I wouldn’t be surprised.

“Progress sucks,” huh? Not necessarily. Sure, it might be easier to find things cheaper online… but when you’re standing right in front of it, that impact is severely lessened.
Also, this system allows for other apps that may not automatically go to Amazon, but will provide info about any product from other sources, letting you know whether you want to buy it in the first place. I’d rather have info about a product’s quality or reliability, or a full listing of its features, than info about what other stores have it cheaper (not that that’s not important, but I respond to quality before price).
Amazon may be first to market, but they don’t have to be the only ones in the game.
