Better e-reader gizmos. Critical mass. Growth in E Ink use. Comfort for the mind. Immediate delivery of desired books.
Those the first five reasons cited in 20 reasons why 2009 will be the year of the ebook, a post at Gutenberg.com, which isn’t related to Project Gutenberg.
So what do you think, gang? Is the Gutenberg.com site on target about the 20 reasons? Or can you think of better ones? And what about the basic premise—that 2009 will be “the year of the e-book”? Will the recession get in the way or actually help, due to the economies of the medium? Most improtantly, will 2009 truly be a breakthrough year for E?

There’s one type of ebook that I want to see yet no one is publishing: a text-only (or small images) encyclopedia. No, wikipedia is not an encyclopedia, it is a morass of petty fiefdoms about as interested in telling facts as a creationist or communist country.
I’d be more than happy to pay $10-20 for a quality encyclopedia in PDF or other format made by someone like Britannica or another reputable company. I want something I can carry around with me daily instead of the CD encyclopedias I use at home or the 1000 page paperback on my desk at work.
