Yeah, that's a good idea. I've always thought it was odd that LCD-display alarm clocks are so shockingly bright. I mean, I get it: You need to be able to see what time it is when you're in a pitch-black room. But those digital displays are so jarring. I can't possibly be the only person who deliberately turns my clock around at night so the red letters won't burn through my eyelids, right?

Seriously though, Juli: Take a look at the 'Concepts' section of the E Ink site, if you've never seen it before. It's insane. Someone seriously made an E Ink snowboard. One of the coolest things I've ever seen, easily.

I don't know if I really, fully got my point across in this piece, but I hope anyone who reads it will realize how amazing E Ink really is. And as Dave Vondle rightly pointed out, its technology really has been underutilized. (And Dave is essentially an industrial designer, if I'm not mistaken, and he also works for one of the best design firms in the country, so he's not just blowing smoke.)

I don't really know why E Ink has been underutilized; maybe it's prohibitively expensive? But I know I'd love to live in a home filled with the sorts of (very useful) E Ink gadgets that labs and design firms are already creating.

I'd like to see an e-Ink alarm clock. Similar to the e-Ink watch, but it would could be a softly lit display, like a Kindle Paperwhite, that wouldn't shine in my eyes and distract me in the middle of the night. With a nice BIG display that near-sighted people like me could actually see.

I'd buy one in a hot minute.
