Using the PalmFiction reader and WiFi

The Russian-created PalmFiction reader continues to delight me—especially in the full-screen mode, which is fuller than just about anything else out there.
Notice? As a clear and unshrunken screenshot off my Palm TX shows, you don’t even see the usual Palm buttons off to the side. What’s more, you can still follow your progress in your book via a thin line at the bottom of the screen. It’s more of a dot in the shot here, and maybe not even visible at all, because I took the snap near the start of City at World’s Edge.
Autoscroll
Compared to most other readers, the autoscroll seems easier to adjust to speed up or slow down to accommodate for differences in the readability of prose. I still avoid autoscroll most of the time, but when I use it, PalmFiction is my choice by far.
Other Palm fans are likewise keen on the reader, including Deb, the new comoderator of the Palm E-Book Forum, who’s shared her thoughts here and here.
WiFi
But how to to use PalmFiction with WiFi? That question came up in the Palm E-Book Forum, and I’ve responded. Short answer: You just download a .pdb or ASCII text file–whatever PF-compatible format you want to use. Then you search for the file within your directories as usual through PalmFiction reader.
By the way, the PalmFiction reader is one more reason to be grumpy about DRM. The most useful and imaginative reading solutions will often come from small companies that either avoid DRM (the case with PalmFiction) or must use their own varieties. DRM provides more “protection” against innovation than against the scanning of p-books by pirates.
