This software is by Xavier Badosa and here is the description from his site. If anyone uses this please let us know how it works. Currently its in beta (0.3.4) and doesn’t work with Internet Explorer. The code is available at Google Code:

dotEPUB is software in the cloud that allows you to convert any webpage into an e-book.

For content consumers (readers), we have developed a bookmarklet (or favlet) for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari. And, if you are a Google Chrome user, you can install the dotEPUB extension in your browser.

For content producers (editors, authors), we offer a widget. See the tips for webmasters. For more customizable results, developers can use our API.

Download webpages to any epub-compatible device: e-readers, tablets, smartphones, netbooks, desktop computers…

Save now and immersively read later (even offline) those long and deep articles you didn’t have time to read while browsing.

Build a personal library of your favorite blog posts, news articles, etc.

Compatible with the IPhone, the IPod Touch, the IPad, the Sony Reader, the Nook, the iLiad, the BeBook, the Cool-er, the CyBook, the Alex eReader, the Kobo eReader, the Elonex eBook, the eSlick, the eClicto, the Hanlin eReader, the QUE ProReader, the Papyre, the Leqtor…

Finally, infinite content for your e-reader… with a single click!

And, because it is software in the cloud, you benefit from the improvements of future releases without having to re-install anything.

Thanks to Laisvunas Sopauskas for the link.

  1. I haven’t used it extensively but it seems to work really well. Extracts the right part of a long webpage and converts it to an epub. Great for me since I’m a Kobo user, so don’t have any web access directly the device. Can just click the green button in Chrome, which creates a file that I can open to Calibre and then transfer to the Kobo for later reading.

  2. I’ve done a couple of sample books and have been pleased with the results. EASY, no fiddling or fussing…

No images but a very nicely readable book…I’m not looking for any fancy results so I haven’t pushed the service…but it very nicely fulfills my needs.

(I use Linux for my OS running FB Reader, so I’m accustomed to having to “make due” in many cases. This tool runs simply and smoothly with no hassles. GREAT work!)

  3. Thanks for the kind reviews. The KISS principle was a #1 priority when designing the UX (I have developed a more configurable Chrome Extension but I haven’t published it because I wanted to keep the single-pushbutton design: I’m waiting till Chrome supports a setup page in the extension tab).

I’m aware of some problems with (for example) Greek accents (but not with Greek characters in general). But as far as I know the problems seem to be related with the e-reader software, not with the epub conversion. Christopher, could you please tell me the e-reader software you are using to view the epubs? Thanks in advance.

  4. that’s a great tool to make one-page conversion, though I prefer instapaper for this.
more often i need to convert entire RSS news feeds into ebook, and I found newstoebook.com which pulls my reading list from Google Reader and makes a nice EPUB (or MOBI) out of it.
