It looks interesting. Too bad it's a proprietary app. I would have tried it on my iPhone or Kindle Fire or even my laptop. But I'm not joining Facebook.

Hmm ... interesting. Because in fact, I am obsessed with small business and self-help books! Perhaps it had us confused.

Dan, it thought I was obsessed with small business and self-help books. Based on what I say and share on Facebook, that probably isn't a surprise. But as soon as I Liked some books, it started to give better suggestions.

One flaw in the system, however. Because it pulls from Ingram, self-published books don't seem to be in the system. My non-fiction book (published by a small press) is there. My fiction (self-pubbed) is not. And I checked for Wool, a highly regarded self-pubbed book. Nope, not there. It'll be there when it's reissued by Random House, though.

So it's a good app, but it's only going to help you discover traditionally published books.

And Dan, enjoy the trip! :)

I forgot Panama and Nicaragua. BookScout really wants me to leave the country, I guess. Thanks a lot, BookScout - I can take a hint!

Juli - Really? That's good to know. I didn't really play with it yet, but I installed it, and for some reason it thinks I'm obsessed with Central America. Seriously - about 90 percent of my "suggested books" were travel guidebooks to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Belize. Odd.

Ok, it's kind of cool. I just installed it, and yes, you can waste far too much time liking and organizing books. If you are a voracious reader, first you have to get through the recommendations of books you already own to get to stuff you haven't yet read. But, it's now recommending books I've never heard of and that look interesting. Umm, ignore all my previous comments on posts mentioning that I like brick and mortar discovery. This app may have just changed my habits.
