AmazonAs if to confirm a 10-inch Kindle Fire tablet is in fact in the works and coming our way soon, Amazon has decided to slash the prices of the thing’s existent smaller siblings, namely the 7-inch Fire HDs.

However, the promo likely has nothing to do with the alleged coming of the 10-incher, being instead a special, time-limited Mother’s Day offer. Well, who cares why is Amazon doing it, right? As long as they’re comfortable with shaving a cool $20 bucks off the slates’ prices, we’re comfortable with paying just $179 for the entry-level model.

Be careful though, because the $20 discount applies only if you enter the special “FIRE4MOM” code at checkout. The 16 GB variant with “special offers” is the one going for $179 if you don’t forget about the promo code, whereas the model with the same amount of on-board storage, but no sponsored screensavers and ads is $194.

Meanwhile, the 32 GB 7-inch Kindle Fire HD starts at $209 and goes for as much as $224 sans special offers, which is pretty darn cheap for a tab with a 1,280 x 800 pix res display, a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, Wi-Fi and a battery capable of running for up to 11 hours on a single charge. What better way of letting your ma know you love her than getting her one of these beauties, eh?
