“John Wiley & Sons book publishing group has selected Attributor as its online content tracking service to help prevent unlawful reuses of its authors’ content on the Web. With the use of Attributor, Wiley can find its content used without permission, including on social networking site, enabling them to identify instances of piracy and rightfully compensate authors for their work. It is a crucial step in protecting intellectual creativity and innovation.” – News release.
So, gang, what do you think of the philosophy of the technology? I don’t have problems with tracking per se (better this approach than DRM!). I do if clients use it to war against fair use, whether we’re talking about e-books, the Web or other media.
