Eternal DRM as a copyright extender?

Read between the lines of Macrovision Wants Old DRM to Work Forever in Slashdot. Could the DMCA eventually be a path to eternal copyright, in effect, on DRMed content of all kinds, including e-books?

This has always been one of the big concerns of anti-DMCA activists, and some would even say this is the intended consequence of the legislation.
Even without nefarious copyright holders using the law to maintain their monopoly, though, the DMCA and DRM can also prevent works from being preserved for the ages.
