Follow that Story: TeleRead Slays the Blognix Beast!
May 7, 2013 | 4:30 pm
Some of you may remember a post we ran last Wednesday, May 1, about a ridiculous website calling itself Blognix, and which had seemingly cloned TeleRead's entire site—content, design and all. Well, I suppose I was remiss in mentioning that just two days later, and without too much of a hassle, frankly, the head of NAPCO's IT department succeeded in squashing Blognix like the sad and pitiful little project it was.
Incredibly though, Blognix morphed like an amoeba almost immediately after ridding itself of its bogus TeleRead cloak; it's now cloning a website called Cheap Tech For Me. Take a look for...
Introducing TeleRead’s newest contributing writer
February 13, 2013 | 11:00 am
I used to be a library junkie with books piled on my nightstand. I’d be constantly renewing books until I finished all of them.
There had to be a way to escape the clutter.
That’s when I discovered e-book apps for my old Blackberry. I bought plenty of books and read and read and read. I even developed what I called ‘Blackberry Eye,’ small wrinkles under my eyes from staring down at my phone all day.
After jumping into the digital book world, I haven’t looked back.
Six years later, I have the original Nook, Nook Touch and a Nexus 7. I spend plenty...
Meet TeleRead’s New Editor-in-Chief
July 30, 2012 | 11:48 am
Hello TeleRead readers—allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dan Eldridge, and I'm both pleased and honored to announce that as of today, and for the foreseeable future, I'll be acting as TeleRead.com's editor-in-chief.
As many of you are undoubtedly already aware, TeleRead's previous editor, the inimitable Paul Biba, resigned from his position early last week in order to pursue other opportunities. A cross-country motorcycle tour is apparently in Biba's future, and frankly, we can't think of a better reason to break the proverbial shackles of a non-stop, round-the-clock blogging gig such as this one.
In fact, all of us here...
Site News – connectivity problems fixed!
April 14, 2009 | 4:10 pm
Well, we hope they are. I've had reports from some people who were completely unable to access the site saying that we are now on line for them. If you know of anyone who has had problems please tell them to try again. It could take up to 3 days for a complete propagation of our DNS fix, but in most cases it should be working now. Our hearty THANKS!!! to Alexander Turcic of Mobile Read for pointing us in the right direction. Nobody seemed to know what the problem could be, so I emailed Alex in...
Site problems – let us know
April 9, 2009 | 9:29 am
Some readers have reported problems accessing the site. We’ve checked our server logs and everything seems to be fine on this end. So we need your help to find out exactly what’s going on.
If you experience a problem leave a comment here. It does not help if you just say you can’t access the site. There are too many variables for this to be useful. Please tell us exactly what the error message you received said. With this info we can do some diagnostics.
You can help yourself too. If you have persistent errors getting to the site contact your...
Site status, two kudos and a thank you
January 21, 2009 | 1:01 am
As you can see we have come a long way from a couple of days ago. The site is running much better and, at least for me, is actually faster than it was before. There is still some work yet to do, but we have gotten over the hump and it will get even better from here on. If you see any particular problems please leave a comment here, or feel free to email me. We can't answer you individually, but we will look into anything you report. Two kudos. First, to Brett Fielo, a principal...
Site Upgrade
October 1, 2008 | 8:18 am
For the next ten minutes I'll be working on a site upgrade. Should be painless. But might see some funny things. I'll report back when it's done. Update: Everything looks ok. Please let me know if you see anything unusual or nonfunctional. Thanks!...
Site Update Information
September 30, 2008 | 7:45 pm
As you know, David Rothman recently had a heart attack. Also, I have been out of the country for the last three weeks, so Teleread has been kind of slow as a result. But I'm back now and will have more time for this blog. Obviously, filling in for David will be difficult, and I'm not the only one who hopes he comes back soon. In the meantime, I'll be the acting editor. If you have any teleread matters you need taken care of, feel free to contact me. idiotprogrammer at fastmailbox.net ...
Teleread Experiencing some problems
September 1, 2008 | 1:48 pm
Perhaps the ghosts of malfunctioning websites is infecting everybody, but we at Teleread are experiencing technical problems. Some commenters have reported errors with posting comments; we're getting proxy errors or something like that. Sometimes, you will receive an error message even though the comment has been posted successfully. We've filed a trouble ticket with our hosting service and are investigating. In the meantime, be patient with us. Contact me at idiotprogrammer at fastmailbox.net if you have any comments being eaten. ...
Update: New Webserver
February 12, 2008 | 3:28 am
We migrated to a new webserver. Should be a little faster. It may take a day or so for things to be completely done. If you notice weird things, please notify me idiotprogrammer at fastmailbox.net...
Speeding up TeleRead: Update
December 9, 2007 | 2:24 pm
Update from Robert: Just to let you know that we are aware of the slow performance on TeleRead.org over the last few days. It involves a problem with the hosting service which we're trying to resolve. We expect a resolution in 24-48 hours. Update from David, 2:43 p.m. Eastern: For now the site might be running a little faster. Temporarily at least, I've cut the number of home page items from ten to six---although the site in the past has done fine with ten. I'd encourage people to try out the comment features and otherwise help us test the...
Full RSS feeds from TeleRead again!
November 29, 2007 | 4:48 pm
In other non-Kindle news, I am happy to report that TeleRead now is serving full RSS feeds again. Apparently, during one of our WordPress upgrades, the More/Read Rest of Post hyperlink was preventing RSS readers from seeing entire articles---just the parts until the More tag. But with the Full Text Feeds plugin, we've solved the problem. More site news: We recently installed the WP-Super Cache plugin. That improves site performance by offering cached versions of pages. Interestingly, readers who haven't commented before are the ones most likely to see this speed boost. Feel free to let us know about any...
