Barnes & Noble quietly changes e-book format, neglects to tell consumers

dyingbitesJPG I ran across a post in the baen.EBookReader forum of Baen’s Bar from someone who said he got “format bait-and-switched” by Barnes and Noble. He said he ordered the e-book of D. D. Barant’s Dying Bites expecting to get the eReader format, which is what they had last time he shopped there. Instead, he  got an ePub—which didn’t do him any good because he reads e-books on his Palm. Curious, I went to Barnes & Noble to check for myself. images.jpegThe always excellent Amazon Kindle Review has a great article today on whether it is really necessary for Amazon to adopt EPUB. It points out that in the past the Kindle has done well without such support. And in the future the author notes that B&N does't bill EPUB support as a feature, the Sony Reader only mentions it as feature #11 and the Plastic Logic Que doesn't mention it at all.
