Geeks.com puts 7” Android tablets on sale, but caveat emptor
January 10, 2012 | 11:41 am
There are other 7” Android tablets out there than the Kindle, Nook, and Kobo. And as if to prove it, Geeks.com has put three of them on sale for under $100 today. The RPAD is $88.99 new, the Pandigital Novel is $98.99 refurbished (available in dark purple and red colors), and the Coby Kyros is $99.99 refurbished (“almost gone”). After that, the price jumps up to $249.99 for a couple of refurbished flavors of Galaxy Tab. Further research indicates that the RPAD is only $10 off what you could get it for on Amazon and has gotten two one-star...

Pandigital Novel takes second place in e-reader sales for 3Q2010
January 21, 2011 | 2:07 pm
Mashable has an article (citing an IDC study) about the 17 million iPad units shipped in 2010, but it also focuses on the number of e-book readers that were sold. In the e-book field, they peg the Kindle selling 1.14 million units in the third quarter of 2010, but instead of Barnes & Noble the Pandigital Novel takes second place with 440 thousand units, followed by the Nook in third at 420 thousand. I find myself more than a little suspicious of these numbers, however, given that I know Amazon doesn’t ever reveal how many units they sell, and...
Black Friday e-reader roundup
November 14, 2010 | 3:24 am
It appears this is going to be the Christmas (or at least the Black Friday) of the $99 e-reader. Apart from the $99 Nook at Best Buy we mentioned the other day (and other discounts on the Pandigital Novel ($139.99) and Sharper Image Literati ($119.99)), now the leaked Wal*Mart Black Friday circular (PDF; link may not be working by the time you read this) indicates that the Sony Digital Reader Pocket Edition (PRS300SC) will be on sale for $99 between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. on that fateful Friday. Sears lists a Libre eBook Reader PRO for $89.99, Hastings...
More Android e-book devices on the way
August 25, 2010 | 9:15 am
Ars Technica’s Ryan Paul has a look at three upcoming or recent Android e-book readers, including the Cruz Reader, the Pandigital Novel, and the SmartQ T7. Velocity Micro’s Cruz Reader looks particularly impressive. Paul writes: The device has a seven-inch color LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 800x600. It runs Android 2.0 and will come bundled with the Borders book store. Even though it is designed as an e-book reader, users will still have access to the underlying Android environment and will not have to hack the device in order to sideload and run...
iRiver Story overpriced; Pandigital Novel returns to market
July 11, 2010 | 3:50 pm
A pair of items about e-book readers that aren’t the big three (or, considering Borders’ entry into the market, perhaps I should say the “big four”). Wired reports that the Korean iRiver Story is now on sale at the UK bookstore WHSmith. It supports the usual formats (EPUB and PDF being the most-used ones on the list) and also the CBZ comic book reader format (in greyscale, of course). It also offers wifi connectivity. However, Wired notes that the SRP is £250, which works out to about $380 at current exchange rates. Of course, electronics tend...
