Review of Bookeen Opus by Ebouquin
August 20, 2009 | 9:10 am

3808927886_9dc2175dee.jpgHere's the conclusion of Ebouquin's review. They have a lot of good pictures on the site. On the whole they seem to have liked the Opus quite a bit, except for the price: Conclusion Avec son nouveau reader, le Cybook Opus, Bookeen prend la tête du cru 2009 des readers de poche.

Bookeen: Opus e-reader is safe in your pocket if you’re careful
August 17, 2009 | 5:36 am

image ActuaLitté wonders if the little five-inch Opus e-reader is safe to carry in your pocket---following the damage to a test unit’s E Ink display. Yes, says Bookeen, just so you’re careful. The words “Pocket Friendly” even appear on the home page of the Bookeen site. Summing up the company’s position, Michael Dehan there has emailed TeleRead: “1) The device can remain in one’s pocket (loose or tight) as long as one doesn’t sit on it or sustain a shock. “2) We provide a protection sleeve by default in the box to protect the device while...

E Ink screen of new Opus too fragile? Damage during test—but let’s wait for the full facts
August 16, 2009 | 2:59 pm

image If you put an Opus e-reader into your pants pocket, even a large pocket, might the screen suffer damage while you’re just walking down the stairs? That’s what apparently happened when ActuaLitté was checking out Bookeen’s new baby, See the related article in French and Google-translated English. The word is that the Opus was rendered “absolutely useless” and that “at no time did we sit” on the unit All kinds of questions arise, of course—such as whether this could be just a flaw in a particular unit. The other issue is, What would be Bookeen’s official policy...

Why DRM won’t let you own books for real: Don Brubaker’s tale of woe
June 9, 2009 | 12:02 pm

image Don Brubaker loyally bought hundreds of books in the DRMed Mobipocket format for his Cybook Gen3. But guess what. He’d like a second reader, and from what he’s heard, the new Cybook apparently won’t be able to read Mobi. See his tale of woe and my reply. Bookeen, maker of the Cybook, almost surely isn’t at fault. The villain is probably Amazon, the owner of Mobi. Last I knew, Amazon wouldn’t let e-reader makers embed both Mobi and a DRM-capable e-reader in a different format in the same devices. What’s more, if Don is in the U.S., the DMCA won’t...

Spiffy-looking Cybook Opus: New ePub-reading gizmo from Bookeen
May 19, 2009 | 8:23 am

imageSo what does Bookeen’s Cybook Opus e-reader look like? Well, here’s a photo that was AWOL from a PDF as I viewed it for yesterday’s write-up mentioning the specs. The shot is reproed at MobileRead, where, as I expected, the new machine is generating its share of excitement. Look for the Opus unveiling next month, with such goodies as ePub and PDF capability, a motion sensor and 12 different font sizes. The screen may be five-inches---we’re not sure. At one store at least, the price is $249.95 Euros. It’s offering a high-res photo....

Comics on the Cybook – let’s hope for more
January 21, 2009 | 12:25 pm

blogtitle.gifComics are something that hasn't made a big e-book splash, and understandably so. They require a fairly large screen and many require color. So it's good to see that Bookeen is trying them out. From the Bookeen blog: From now on you can find 5 eBooks demo from Foolstrip in your Cybook. Foolstrip is a French comic...
