Booklights for the Kindle and Kindle 3
October 8, 2010 | 4:31 pm

On the left is an excellent video on the Amazon cover with light. BEAM N READ 3-Led light, made by ASF Lightware Solutions. I'm including a couple of photos below to show light coverage on my Kindle 3 with the Amazon cover with built-in light and when using my new favorite light for the Kindle, by BEAM N READ. This is worn around the neck and has a light, adjustable strap.  The light is said to last about 120 hours, and I've been using it for weeks and it's still going.  The 3 leds are the type that will likely go for forever, as long as there are batteries...

The ereader in Brazil by Piet van Oostrum
August 21, 2010 | 12:09 pm

banner1.jpgEditor's note: this is an email I received from Piet who is staying in Bolivia for a year. The picture is from the Leitor site. P. Hi Paul, The Brazilian company Mix Tecnologia Ltda this week started selling an ereader that they announced a year ago and was mentioned on Teleread. They seem to sell only the basic version which isn't `better than the Kindle' as it doesn't have 3G. It is quite expensive at R$890, which is $500. This is about the average weekly salary of a Brazilian with an academic education. Compare this with the Indian ereader that was...

No wonder Banned Books Week isn’t well known – the organizers don’t care
September 29, 2009 | 8:22 pm

images-1.jpegJessamyn, at librarian.net, has a very depressing listing of all the sites that should be promoting Banned Books Week - but aren't. Read it and weep: As usual, I clicked through from the ALA web page to the home pages of all the organizations who are co-sponsors of Banned Books Week. Here’s what I found. The American Booksellers Association mentions BBW and offers a broken link to more information about it The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression is still offering its handbook from 2007 The American Society for Journalists and Authors appears pretty busy opposing the Google settlement to mention BBW. The Association...

bks.gifHere is the word direct from the Banned Books Week site. Please go over and take a look and then think about what you can do during this week. Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read!
August 12, 2009 | 11:00 am

IMC.jpgThis is actually from September 26 to October 3, but it is something we should start thinking about now. The text below is from the Banned Books Website, run by the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression. Thanks to Book Patrol for this and go there for some further information. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982.
