young adultI’d like to introduce you to my friend Alexander Christou. Xander, as he likes to be called, is eleven years old and one of the smartest kids I know. He’s a passionate reader, a great soccer player, speaks Greek (his father is from Greece), and is a more engaging, interesting conversationalist than some adults I know!

Xander blogs about what he reads from his home in Austin, Texas, where he lives with his parents: Karen, an artist, and Christos, a designer. He’s a huge fan and supporter of Austin’s great indie bookstore, BookPeople, and he’s in touch with Topher Bradfield, their Children’s Outreach Coordinator and Literary Camp Director (what a great title/job!), about reading and blogging for BookPeople.

Xander really wants to read and blog about more books, and get more views on his blog, so I told him I would help the cause. Please read the letter below. If you’d like to add Xander to your review list, please contact me at lrosen@napco.com and I’ll give you his contact info, or you can click the “Contact Me” option on his blog.

Xander wrote to me again yesterday, very excited because he has been contacted by someone in the marketing department at Simon & Schuster who wants him to review their books and is sending him four books. Join your colleagues and send Xander something to read. He eats books up, and he’d love to read yours!

Now here’s Xander in his own words:

Dear Publisher of Young Adult Books,

I’m Xander!  I am eleven years old, and I have a blog where I review books: http://mybookwormblog.wordpress.com/.  I was wondering if you could put me on your ARC list and send me ARCs to review on my blog.  I would love to read some of your upcoming books.  I love spreading the word about great books, and people trust me when I recommend a book (I start reading a book at school, then sometimes a few days later, they are reading that book).  I am also BookPeople’s middle-grade book reviewer.  I like these genres: fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, realistic fiction, and mythology

Thanks,

Xander

  1. I took a look at Xander’s site, and was really impressed. I have a young adult novel coming out in October from Flux books, and will right away ask them to add him to their ARC list. If they don’t send him one, I’ll try to get him one of my own copies when they come in. Thanks for the connection!
