Leaked: Alleged First Photo of the Second-Gen Google Nexus 7 Tablet
June 17, 2013 | 9:00 pm
Google’s unveiling of the second-gen Nexus 7 tab is likely a matter of days, or, worse case scenario, weeks, so the pieces of the oft-rumored puzzle are one by one nicely falling into place.
The first piece—pricing—was revealed last week. Big chunks of the spec sheet have subsequently leaked to the press, while the first low-res photo of the device has been uncovered mere hours ago. While this is not an official pic, it accompanied the N7-2 (codename Asus K009) at the Bluetooth SIG, so it’s 100 percent legit.
Sadly, we can’t tell a whole lot about the slate’s design from the image, though...
(Hurry, Limited-Time) Deal Alert: Get a Barnes & Noble Nook HD for $129, Nook HD+ for $149
June 11, 2013 | 10:30 am
I know, I know, there are oodles of tablets cooler than Barnes & Noble’s Nooks around, starting with the uber-cheap Nexus 7 and the sleek iPad Mini. But with B&N holding constant “yard sales”, I dare you to find a slate with more bang for the buck.
Leading to Father’s Day for instance, the Nook HD goes for just $129 both in physical stores and online, while the Nook HD+ is $149. That gives you roughly five days (Father’s Day is this Sunday, remember) to decide between the two. Our advice? Get them both. One for you, one for your dad,...
Acer Iconia W3 Tablet Now Available for Pre-Orders via Amazon and Staples
June 10, 2013 | 11:00 pm
The world’s first ever Windows 8-powered tablet to sport an 8-inch display has been the star of numerous “leaks” over the past couple of months, plus one or two (more or less) official intros, but it’s only now available for pre-orders.
The name is W3, Acer Iconia W3, and Amazon and Staples are the first online retailers to (promise to) ship it. Both sellers have the 8-incher listed at $379.99, but for now you’ll probably be more inclined to deal with Staples, as shipping is said to only take between one and seven business days.
Meanwhile, Amazon vows to deliver the W3 in no less than three weeks, which is not exactly an eternity,...
Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 and A3000 Now Available for Sale, Starting at Just $149
June 9, 2013 | 10:00 am
Say, do you happen to remember Lenovo’s IdeaTab A1000 and A3000? No? I can’t say I’m shocked, but let me give you the skinny real quick: The two 7-inch tabs were unveiled way back in February, although they're only just now available for sale in the United States.
Neither the A1000 nor the A3000 will break speed records of any sort, and you can’t say the slates are very elegant or sexy, either. Still, they are not to be completely ignored, as they come with a fairly decent quality-pricing ratio. Actually, scratch that—they’re dirt-cheap and that’s the end of it.
The A1000 goes for...
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Gets Much Awaited and Oft-Delayed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update
May 10, 2013 | 2:09 pm
Samsung might have already started rolling out the third generation of Galaxy Tabs with the Tab 3 7.0, but that doesn’t mean it has forgotten all about the aging members of the family introduced back in 2011 and 2012.
In fact, one of those, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, is reported to be receiving some much awaited and at one point highly unlikely love in the form of beans. Jelly Beans, to be somewhat specific. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, to be fully specific.
The 4.1.2 update is slowly but surely making its way through Asia, being expected in Europe and North America in the...
Deal Alert: Amazon Slashes Price on 7-Inch Kindle Fire HDs in Time for Mother’s Day
May 7, 2013 | 12:00 pm
As if to confirm a 10-inch Kindle Fire tablet is in fact in the works and coming our way soon, Amazon has decided to slash the prices of the thing’s existent smaller siblings, namely the 7-inch Fire HDs.
However, the promo likely has nothing to do with the alleged coming of the 10-incher, being instead a special, time-limited Mother’s Day offer. Well, who cares why is Amazon doing it, right? As long as they’re comfortable with shaving a cool $20 bucks off the slates’ prices, we’re comfortable with paying just $179 for the entry-level model.
Be careful though, because the $20 discount applies only...
Amazon Rumored To Be Working On 10-Inch Kindle Fire With Impressive Display
May 6, 2013 | 9:02 pm
You're familiar with the saying “Go big or go home?” Well, it doesn’t exactly apply to the tablet market nowadays, but the tide could turn soon enough.
One of the biggest ongoing battles is for the small tab crown, with Google, Asus, Amazon, Apple, but also Acer fighting each other guns blazing. Meanwhile, the bigger throne remains in Cupertino, Calif., with only Samsung (timidly) trying to steal the 9.7-inch iPad’s thunder.
However, if we are to trust newly emerged online reports, Amazon is planning to spread its Fire instead of cooling it down. The next generation of the company’s Kindle Fires will...
Sony Xperia Tablet Z Available for US Pre-Orders Starting at $500
April 29, 2013 | 3:45 pm
Who said high-end 10-inch Android tablets are not attractive anymore just because they’re much pricier than 7-inchers like the Nexus 7 or Amazon’s Kindle Fires? Well, a lot of people, but Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z is bound to make you rethink that.
With a splendid design resembling the Xperia Z phone, a stunning Full HD screen, outstanding hardware, up-to-date software, plus water and dust protection, it’s pretty difficult to ignore Sony’s latest 10-incher.
True, the thing is not exactly the most budget-conscious around, but it’s probably worth every penny of the $500 Sony is asking for it in the U.S. Available for...
Deal Alert: Walmart Offers Free $70 Gift Card With Every Nook HD+ Purchase
April 16, 2013 | 12:15 pm
Did you miss out on last month’s Barnes & Noble deal bundling every purchased Nook HD+ tablet with a free Nook Simple Touch e-reader? Well, I wouldn’t sweat it too much, seeing as Walmart is now offering the same Nook HD+ as part of an equally as lucrative promotional offer.
Every 9-incher purchased via the retailer’s website gets you a free $70 eGift Card that you can then use at Walmart.com, Samsclub.com or in Walmart and Sam’s Club brick and mortar stores. The gift card doesn’t have an expiration date and it can be used towards the purchase of any product, but of...
Redesigned Full-Sized Apple iPad 5 To Be Unveiled This Month?
April 4, 2013 | 4:45 pm
It’s been awhile since we last heard a quasi-believable next-gen iPad story, but it shouldn’t be long now until we get something conclusive. That’s because several sources claim a new full-sized iPad is closing in on its release, with the official unveiling rumored to happen by the end of this month.
But is that possible? We’d be inclined to say no, because, again, there have been far too few iPad 5 rumors lately and Apple is usually very skilled at building hype months before an actual release.
Then again, with the third-gen iPad released in March 2012 and the fourth-generation back in...
Google Nexus 5 Now Rumored To Be Compact 4.5-Incher With CCD Camera
March 26, 2013 | 3:26 pm
Shopping for a high-end smartphone these days is surely not easy, with so many ever-so-slightly different devices battling it out for a place in our hearts. But what about six or nine months from now? Well, it’s about to get even more crowded and more crazy-competitive in the mobile market.
Aside from the mystery Motorola X Phone, whose most recently leaked spec sheet is a real doozy, the Nexus 5 should also give Samsung, HTC, Sony, Apple and BlackBerry a run for their money.
The alleged LG-made new Nexus leaked out for the first time last week, but now another source debunks basically everything the...
Refurbished iPad Minis Once Again Available from Apple Store, Starting at $299
March 26, 2013 | 1:38 pm
The iPad mini looked like a bit of a gamble for Apple at first, but you don’t get to Cupertino’s dominant position over the tablet market without taking some risks, do you? And this one seems to have paid off rather nicely, as a second-gen 7.9-incher is allegedly in the works already.
Meanwhile, if you’re one of those folks living in the shadows and scouring the Internet for the best deals on the most awesome gadgets, you should know that an assortment of refurbished iPad minis are again available via Apple’s U.S. Store.
The tabs are not exactly dirt-cheap, but they offer...
