Apple today finally took the wraps off its (very) long-rumored iPad mini. The new device features a display that measures 7.9 inches, and offers the same resolution as the standard iPad. That means all the iPad applications available in the App Store will be fully compatible with the smaller form factor of the iPad mini.

The iPad mini will be twice as thin and much lighter than the newly announced 4th gen iPad. In addition, the iPad mini will have a dual core A5 chip, FaceTime HD camera, a 5-megapixel iSight camera capable of 1080p video recording, 4G LTE connectivity, faster Wi-Fi capability, and of course Apple’s new Lightning connector. It will also be capable of 10 hours of battery power, matching the larger 9.7″ iPad.

Apple also announced new Smart Covers for the iPad mini, which will be priced at $49 dollars.

Pricing for the new iPad Mini will start at $329 for the Wi-Fi only models. The iPad mini cellular data variant will be priced at $459 for the base 16GB model, $559 for 32GB and $659 for the bigger 64GB models. Pre-orders will begin this Friday, with a launch date of November 2.
