Amazon-PrimeMark your calendar. If you want to add a year to your Amazon Prime membership, or sign up for the first time, Friday is the day you’ve been waiting for. To celebrate the five wins Amazon’s original show Transparent racked up at the 67th PrimeTime Emmy Awards, Amazon will drop the price of Amazon Prime to $67 beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday, September 25 and ending at 11:59 p.m. PT the same day. (The company claims the sale will run for “just 24 hours,” but that seems more like 27 to me.)

So, if saving $32 will make it worth signing up for Amazon Prime for a(nother) year, this is your big chance. Find the sale on Friday at http://www.amazon.com/TransparentPrime.

Update: The deal is ostensibly open only to new subscribers, but The Digital Reader suggests a handy workaround that might work: set your Prime membership not to renew (use the “End Membership” option from this page) and then purchase a gift subscription to Prime, scheduled to arrive in your inbox the day after your regular Prime subscription ends. It’s worth a shot.

Update 2: Unfortunately, it seems Amazon learned from its last discount promo, and engineered this one to disable the aforementioned workaround. The discount applies to new subscribers only, alas. Oh well; as I said, it was worth a shot.
