A few days ago we caught a few leaked images of Acer’s updated mini tablet, the Iconia A1. A next-generation of Acer’s Iconia B1, the “One-Handed” device features a brilliant 7.9-inch IPS display, arguably better specs, and clearly a better price-point than Apple’s latest iPad mini.
If you’re in the market for an ultra-portable slate, this should be on your list of items to scout, especially now with official pricing and availability information announced.
Specs-wise, our report from the other day was majorly on-point. Acer‘s Iconia A1 (A1-810) will pack a quad-core 1.7GHz MediaTek processor, an advertised seven-hour battery life, micro-HDMI input, a microSD card slot for upping storage by 32GB, a micro-USB 2.0 port and the standard Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless capabilities.
It also includes a five-megapixel rear-facing camera that can shoot 1080p video at 30fps, with easily-operated editing software for simple edits and effects. The A1 is only .9-pounds light and measures in at .44-inches thin, clearly in tune with the company’s “Full Featured One-Handed Tablet for Everyone” claim.
Since the ergonomically-designed tab will run on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, also out of the box will be a full suite of Google applications: Google Now, Google Search, Gmail, YouTube and the Play Store.
Plans are to have the tablet available this June for $199.99 in the 16 GB flavor, though it will also be released with an 8 GB counterpart for a presumably cheaper (though still unannounced) price. (We’ve heard $169.99.)
