Let me re-parse that for you – “At least 2 million people own a kindle device. That’s lifetime sales, not yearly or quarterly, and also doesn’t mention anything about whether sales are increasing or decreasing.”

pond: What are you trying to say? There's been a rash of hundreds of thousands of Kindle thefts from warehouses? Kindles are, like tribbles, giving birth to baby Kindles? I don't recall any massive Kindle giveaways, so I'm not sure how millions of people could own them without Amazon having sold them.

As you note, comments made at these calls carry some weight. They are, therefore, carefully parsed: should a CFO or CEO wish to leave a false impression, he must ensure that the literal meaning of his words is truth.

Here we note that Mr Bezos did NOT say they had ‘sold millions of Kindles’ — he said ‘millions of people now own Kindles.’

Amazon has got me hooked on buying. I’ll have to live until I’m 500 yrs old to read everything I’ve bought. They really do have a great selection. Much better than anyone else.
