New ereader from BeBook – the Neo

By Paul Biba

product_overview_main_image_neo.jpgBeBook says that the Neo is the fastest reader on the market, up to 2.5 times faster than other units. It has a 6″ screen and a WACOM touchpad which can be used for sketching, annotations and text markup.

It has WiFi, but no 3G, and 512MB on board, with an SD slot for more expansion. I can’t find any info on their site about formats, but other websites are reporting it reads Epub and PDF. It will retail, in the US for $299 and be available on Feburary 25. There is a series of YouTube videos about it here.

  1. View angle, clarity and darkness of text display are the first set of rule when I shop for a e-reader and the videos show this e-reader looks pretty promising. Hopefully, we will see third party reviews of this e-reader soon.

  2. In my opinion you are best waiting a while as there are a number of ebooks coming out this year, with better specs but more importantly this is the year of the Tablet which offer ebook functionality and more, roughly for the same sort of price.

The Neo is a Onyx Boox 60, which is already getting good reviews. Previous BeBook devices were from Jinke, and used standard Jinke firmware. There may be some BeBook specific features on the Neo, but we will have to wait for reviews to tell if they exist and make a difference.
