The price is fair enough, however, there are not enough ebook out there and the website is hard to navigate. I still prefer using Calibre to get free ebook. BTW, you can get free epub books for children from Snee project.

Also you can set Baen as a allowed emailer for your Kindle and Baen will email it to your Kindle, regular $.15 charge applies.

They are the 'GOLD' standard for what an ebook store should be like.

7- If you're interested in SF/Fantasy, Baen has an excellent stable of authors. They've also recently started picking up some classic works from the big names as well (Heinlein, Poul Anderson, Zelazny etc).

Nice summary.
Of further note:

1- BAEN ebooks are sold bundled via webscriptions *and* individually from the storefront. (Webscriptions are not traditional subscriptions; each month rolls out a new bundle but you only buy the bundle you choose. All bundles ever released are still on sale.)

2- Webscriptions also sells regular (quarterly?) bundles of ebooks from other specialty/fantasy publishers plus individual titles from authors who control their own ebook rights and choose to use the Webscription storefront. They recently started bringing in e-editions of classic works from the 50's and 60's.

3- Webscription ebooks are *book* sales, not *file* sales. The sale is recorded and you are able to do recurrent downloads of your purchased titles in any of the many supported formats. If you bought a book in 2003 in LIT format and then got a Sony in 2007 and a Kindle in 2009 all you would have to do is download the new version. In the last year, they've added ePub support.

4- When you buy a webscription bundle, it allows you to nominate a friend/associate to receive a free promotional webscription bundle.

5- More recently, Baen has started to offer entire series in special promotional bundles (usually when the author joins the ebook party) offering limited-time bundles. They also offer early-release Advanced Reader Copies of select high-visibility titles (at a premium price) months before the print edition.

6- Not all their innovations end well, though; their three-year effort at a monthly monster anthology ebook "magazine", JIM BAEN'S UNIVERSE is coming to an end this year, as it never quite reached critical mass. Hopefully it will be resurrected in a few years, once ebooks are fully mainstreamed.

For those of us into ebooks and Fantasy and SF books, Baen is generally understood to be "the good guys". :-)
