Jeff Bezos on e-books, bathtubs and Ziploc bags

By David Rothman

image Is Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO, reading TeleRead or other e-book blogs? Very possibly.

For many months, people here have suggested heavy-duty plastic bags if you want to laze back in the bathtub and enjoy your e-reader.

Now read a snippet from Deborah Solomon’s interview with Bezos for the New York Times.

What do you say to Kindle users who like to read in the bathtub?

I’ll tell you what I do. I take a one-gallon Ziploc bag, and I put my Kindle in my one-gallon Ziploc bag, and it works beautifully. It’s much better than a physical book, because obviously if you put your physical book in a Ziploc bag you can’t turn the pages. But with Kindle, you can just push the buttons.

  1. The plastic bag idea has been around since the first dedicated ebook reader–Rocket eBook, so it’s been around for a number of years.

  2. Thanks, Marilyn, but who know how it reached Jeff Bezos ;-) Both TeleRead and MobileRead have had a bunch of references.

  3. The nice thing about the zip lock back is you can read in the shower too. :-)
