Kindle Store cutting out free ebooks; Kindle Nation thinks so

By Paul Biba

images.jpegHere’s an excerpt from a Kindle Nation Daily post. I certainly hope he’s wrong:

But it is worth noting at this juncture that Amazon appears to have made a business decision, at least for now, that “free” will play an increasingly limited role in the Kindle Store:

The number of free public domain titles in the Kindle Store has remained at roughly 7,350 since last March.

The number of free promotional titles has been dwindling since August, and no new free promotional titles have been added this month despite numerous publisher requests to offer free titles.

The content, look, and feel of Amazon’s own “Big Deals on Kindle” page hasn’t changed in weeks, so that the page has become the only thing worse than a dead link: a link that stays alive but is never worth checking.
