Sony drops PRS-505 e-readers’s price in Germany: Price cuts on the way for the U.S. and elsewhere?

By David Rothman

image “On the heels of Amazon’s recent price reduction for the Kindle in the US (to $299), Sony has just lowered its recommended price of its Reader in Germany by 17% to 249 Euros (from 299 Euros).” – Publishing Perspectives.

The TeleRead take: PP cites the German-language Buchreport, which says Sony may fears competition from the forthcoming Vodafone reader.

Will the new Kindle 2 price, earlier $359, mean a price reduction in the U.S. and elsewhere? A Sony site lists the PRS-505 at $279, $20 off the original $299.

Also in the PP item: A pickup of Buchreports’ account on the battle between techies and content providers.

  1. I hope the price comes down in the US. While I love my PRS-500, I’d love to upgrade to the 505 for the ePub capabilities. A lower price might just push me over the edge and go out and buy one!

  2. For a brief period, the 505 was $249 at J&R. Back up to $269 now. Weird.
