7/20/09 and they are out... The closest thing in price to this on the Geeks site is $279.

Bait and switch anyone?

Might as well get a laptop for $300+
Anybody else got a deal?

The 900 and 701 have a hardware bug that causes battery drain

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eeepc#Battery_Drain

I have a 701 and the problem is not too bad. You can just remove the battery when not using the unit for awhile.

If you get one of these, dump the buggy and poorly supported version of Linux supplied and install Eeebuntu, it is really good -- or install Jolicloud if you can get an invite.

Finally, a price for the Eee900 that I can endorse. This is a nice price. I have been seeing lately the last few Eee901s in stores have dropped down to about US$240. A few stores have them for that price.

These would make excellent "disposable" travel computers. By this, I mean computers that one could travel with, but not be too distraught if the unit was stolen (please do not get the impression that I would ever advocate throwing away a computer -- even if broken ;-).
