And if people keep thinking you need an iPod to listen to a podcast, a lot of potential listeners who don't own of those i-thingees one might not even try. You do not need an i-anything to listen to a podcast! You can listen to podcasts on any computer that's wired for sound as well as on any MP3 player. I agree with Steve. If all they need is to listen to podcasts, students can use almost literally thousands of devices of all shapes and sizes. Singling out an iPod or iPhone for such a purpose is just absurd, especially if it's just to give a student an "excuse" to go to mommy and daddy and demand an iPhone. Everyone who is new to digital needs are singling out Kindle and iPhone, two proprietary systems, purely due to commercial saturation. I expect that, when the next great thing comes along (and <em>we know</em> it will), and all those Kindle and iPhone users have to adapt either to the new thing or a more universal thing, this will not end well.
