As a test, I just posted another copy of my detailed review of all the volumes in Tolkien's The History of Middle-Earth. You can see it here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S6MVVW/ref=cm_cr_thx_view

Amazon's policy may be firmly on the side of authors posting links to their titles, but there's still a blasted automated script (I suspect) that rips out the link to my book (Untangling Tolkien), while leaving all the other links untouched. I feel cursed or something.

Adding a book you've written to your profile Name is an excellent idea. I just tried that with my Location instead, since the formatting might look a bit better. We'll see if Amazon's Posting Police allows that to remain. It seems to take time for changes to percolate through their system.

Users might also want to change the Signature, although as best I can tell, it only appears on the Profile page. It'd be good if a Signature was like that in email and appeared, nicely formatted, at the end of our review, possibly with a book link intact.

Next time you talk with Drew Herdener, you might ask if Amazon permits authors to post a VIDEO review of our books on their detail page. Between InDesign CS4's ability to write Flash files and iMovie, I suspect I could create a passable overview of a book that would let users to view the interior (with Ken Burns panning), while they listen to me explain what it's about. It'd be a win-win situation for Amazon and authors.

And I'd be delighted if Amazon let authors/publishers supply them with a PDF sample of a book that users could download from the detail page. Again, it would let potential customers see before they buy and they could pass that PDF on to friends: "Here's a book yah just gotta get...."
