Two good points, Steve. 30,000-50,000 words could reach an entire market of time-short people who can't fit longer books into their schedules. David

Two things in the Post article interested me.

One was the suggestion that e-books open up a market for "smaller" books, in the range of 30,000-50,000 words, that largely does not exist any more in the print world. I agree that there's plenty of room for books that don't need casters to move around, so that's good to hear.

Two is the fact that the e-book was out for $12.00, which sounds like a lot for an e-book (and it is)... but as an exclusive product, before the printed books came out. To my mind, making an e-book a first-out exclusive is about the only good reason for pricing it at more than a few dollars at first offering, and if more publishers did this, I would be okay with it (assuming prices came down later, of course, just as they do when hardbacks and paperbacks are out for awhile).
