Comments on: Sony PRS-505 gets update today: ePub and DRMed PDF

we have problems to read an EPUB format, I import from HTML using the site http://www.bookglutton.com/api/getepub and get the final EPUB archive
When I read it with Adobe digital editions 1.5 , we have no problem, but this same archive I read with the PRS-505 ins small mode and some lines are truncating AN DOES NOT appear at all in following pages, I mean

And now I can’t even access the Sony store after the upgrade. The same thing happened to a friend who has the 500 … is this happening to others?

I’m not a big ePub fan anyways… so I don’t care.
Lesson learned: never buy a closed system again.
(Except for iPod and maybe an AppleTV)

non-DRM ePub can be converted to PDF anyways… it’s like printing it… that’s good enough

This is why I’ll never buy another Sony product. I bought the 500 less than a year ago and now I’m getting screwed over. What a transparent attempt to get us all to buy the 505.

Got the firmware and the new reader software and digital editions. I have put a number of epubs on my reader and a drmed pdf from digital editions. The new digital editions version noticed there was a reader plugged in and authorised it. Great!
Reflowable pdf does seem to have the nasty habit of cutting words in two. Which makes a text very awkward to read.

Sony Reader now works with Overdrive! The Digital Editions showed my PRS 505 I downloaded a title, and dragged and dropped AWESOME!!!!

Hi, Tamas. As noted in the post, Sony is still thinking that over. I’d encourage PRS-500 owners to speak up! While Sony hasn’t ruled out an upgrade, the current feeling is that the user base is too low. Thanks. David

What about the older model PRS-500?
Will early adopters be also able to upgrade and read ePubs?

That would make me dust off my reader…

That’s probably the Connect update that they posted on 5/14. I do not see the firmware update on their support website, yet.
