It takes good networking/marketing AND a fantastic book. One or the other alone won't have the same results. And I define fantastic book here, as the kind of book that connects with readers. we seem to be getting into a place where indie publishing isn't just for those who "aren't good enough for traditional publishing" but those of us who feel trad publishing is a bad business decision for a first book, since we have to do most of the marketing work anyway.
