		<description>Carol, this is part of the fun of the TeleBlog being global---the sharing of all these little country-specific references. I was thinking &quot;digger&quot; as in &quot;digging up dirt,&quot; but apparently that&#039;s not the whole story. 

More significantly, I do think that book-newspaper connections are inevitable, and I hope that the books will elevate the level of the newspapers rather than vice versa.


As for the WSJ-Murchdoch deal---I repeat: I wish the damn thing had never happened. Beyond ethics concerns, I love those long offbeat features that the tabloid man in Murdoch might dismiss as yawners.

Mercifully Murdoch gave up his Australia citizenship when he started buying up the USA, but our (Australian) print media is still very &quot;Murdochised&quot;.  Probably one reason why I don&#039;t buy many newspapers these days.</description>
