Pontis MX2020 reviewed

The Pontis MX2020 just got reviewed by OSNews. This is a cheap media player with PDA-like functionality (cheap means US$ 200 this time around, though I have seen offers of US$ 180). When we discussed the failure of PDA-like devices in the iPod market, one of the reasons given for that failure was that PDAs do not have the same specs as PMPs: typically, they lack hard drives. But now PMPs come equiped with PDA-like functionality at competing prices.
Some of the MX2020′s features: 3.5 inch touchscreen LCD with backlight and stylus; video, audio, and JPEG; 300 gram; a compact flash slot and a 20GB hard drive; batteries last 2.5 hours for video and six for audio; and calendar, memo and calculator applications. The original Iubi device could also be expanded with Wifi, but that has been disabled in the Pontis version.
Netzwelt reviewed the MX2020 earlier this year (German), when the device cost circa 420 euro. It grumbled a bit about the weight, but concluded that you weren’t going to jog with a video player anyhow, and that this is more a device for the commuter. A more serious gripe that the German magazine had, is that it took the device up to five seconds to start playing a song, which is unacceptably slow.
The reason for the price drop may be that Pontis no longer supports the device, although Geeks.com does. The original manufacturer, Iubi, is still around.
The closest contender for the MX2020 that I can see would be the Archos PMA402; specwise it outshines the MX2020 in every aspect, except the price. The PMA400 will relieve you of 800 US$. PMA stands for Personal Media Assistent, and that shows: Wifi, web browser, e-mail, organizer, removable battery for extended mobility and programmable.

I had purchased the Pontis MX2020, but there’s no place in this world that sells the battery. I need help in locating where I can purchase this battery. Thanks.
