It is indeed very good news that the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) recently changed their bylaws to give lower-dues-paying regular Members the same rights and privileges for decision-making and leadership as the Principal Members previously enjoyed. This includes voting on important organizational (and other) matters and to even run for the IDPF Board of Directors.

Sure, it is still not cheap to join. Small companies pay yearly dues of $1000, and non-profits $650. But for an industry trade and standards organization like IDPF, this is quite reasonable. Hopefully now smaller independent publishers and even authors will consider joining, either directly or via a representative organization, in order to have more of a say in the matters that affect the ebook industry.
