The ‘librarian shortage’
There are many reasons to justify e-libraries, but in most cases the supposed librarian shortage is not one of them right now. So intense is the job scramble that older librarians are competing with younger ones for the rare entry-level positions. In the future there could be a shortage. But it isn’t here yet.
I myself would like to see more money go for librarians and neighborhood branches and small-town libraries and less for expensive downtown book warehouses in the Philly vein. (Library Journal via Jessamyn West.)
