Anyone who doesn't like the way Michael Hart is doing things is perfectly free to start their own book-digitizing project and see if they can do better. They can take money from anyone they like. Don't criticize PG. Put up or shut up.

Google said they were going to digitize libraries. Figures like "a million books" were bandied about.

And today they just announced, surprise, surprise, the project has come to a crashing halt, put on indefinite hold while they kowtow to publishers.

Project Gutenberg is up to 16,000 books. So far, that's 16,000 more than any of those other guys have made available, free, to the public, over the Internet.
